Today, after much thumb twiddling and many visits to the royalmail trace-track site, I got my 'pass' to join the 'white earphones' clan! YES, I got my first Apple. This little white object is definitely worth the wait, and the packaging is so neat and beautiful I actually didn't want to open any of the stuff! To make this day even more special, and white...Its now snowing outside! Yes, there is definitely a god and he sees my need of everything must be white from now on! I think I may have just fallen in love....with my iPod.

Here is my dissertation title...I am open to suggestions on maybe a better title/topic, and books that I may find useful!

4th year dissertation title

The dissertation is going to be based on the shift in environmental art from the Geometric (Michael Heizer) to the Entropic (Robert Smithson) to the Systemic (Olafur Elliasson or Peter Fend).

Walter De Maria was the first person to use the term 'land art' and apart from him, most artists don't describe their work using such a title, as it is unclear what the title covers. However De Maria was one of the first artists who had completed a relevant Land Art works during the early 60s and Heizer joined him towards the late 60s. It was not until the early 70s that Robert Smithson created his first real earthwork. This dissertation will discuss the reason behind why land art was created in the first place, and how different generations of artists choose to interpret nature and the environment.

"The subject is architecture, the result is sculpture."
-Michael Heizer

I am also looking into Richard Long as I think his stuff is pretty interesting too! I just have to try to get my head round all the theoretical stuff....

On Sat few people from my year and I went to this installation called 'field' by Richard Box. It's an amazing experience and you have to go if you have a friend, a torch and a car. Thousands of fluorescent tubes are planted at the foot of an electricity pylon, and as the night comes you start to notice the flickering tubes. The tubes are not at all 'connected', they are simply stuck into the ground, but the electricity jumping off the pylon is enough to light the tubes. If you stand close to one, the glow fades as the electricity is now passing though you other than the tube (scary thought..I know). But the installation points out beautifully what we would never notice, and its just a stunning piece of work.

Happy Valentines Day! If you are short of things to do on the day, or just bored in general, I recommend the new art film 'The Dreamers'. It's definitely highly controversial, and I think the wardrobe lady had an easy job, as the actors probably spent more time naked rather than clothed, but hey....who's complaining? It's definitely a film worth venturing to the cinema for...you will either love it ........ or hate it.
